Symptom of gearcase problem-excessive noise

SERVICING THE  GEARCASE
The most common symptom of agearcase problemis excessive noise. Excessive noise can be caused by several conditions. If either the seals or plugs are faulty, lubricant will be lost, and the resulting inadequate lubrication of the gears will create noise.If there is an oil sheen on the water, look for the source ! Yamaha Gear Case Seal Damage

 Give your gearcase a quick check. With the boat on the trailer and outboard in neutral, give the prop a spin. The high-viscosity lube in the outboard gearcase should arrest the motion of the prop quickly. If the prop spins free, however, the lube could be diluted with water.
